چکیده

Abstract Introduction Idiopathic rapid eye movement (REM) sleep behavior disorder (iRBD) can affect quality of life (QOL) for both patient and bed partner; isolated REM without atonia (iRSWA) has been less well-studied. We aimed to investigate whether QOL changes over time in those with either iRBD or iRSWA, as well compare these one another. Additionally, we attempted demonstrate certain were associated phenoconversion neurodegenerative illness. Methods prospectively analyzed data from the “REM Sleep Behavior Disorder Associations Parkinson’s Disease Study (RAPiDS)” cohort at baseline then follow-up evaluations. utilized Neuro-QOL self-reported questionnaire ascertain subjects’ level QOL. Results There 6 iRSWA 33 iRBD, an average age 61.9 ± 13.0 years, 13 women 26 men. Significant found group. Among who phenoconverted, fatigue social functioning main issues that worsened time. Conclusion This is first studied iRSWA. be affected conditions; seem particular importance they may phenoconversion. Support (if any) Grant a private individual

REM sleep behavior disorder and REM sleep without atonia in patients with progressive supranuclear palsy.

STUDY OBJECTIVE To compare sleep characteristics, rapid eye movement (REM) sleep without atonia, and REM sleep behavior disorder (RBD) in patients with progressive supranuclear palsy (tauopathy), patients with Parkinson's disease (a synucleinopathy), and control subjects. DESIGN Sleep interview, overnight polysomnography, and Multiple Sleep Latency Tests. PATIENTS Forty-five age- and sex-ma...

Severity of REM atonia loss in idiopathic REM sleep behavior disorder predicts Parkinson disease.

BACKGROUND Over 50% of persons with idiopathic REM sleep behavior disorder (RBD) will develop Parkinson disease (PD) or dementia. At present, there is no way to predict who will develop disease. Since polysomnography is performed in all patients with idiopathic RBD at diagnosis, there is an opportunity to analyze if baseline sleep variables predict eventual neurodegenerative disease. METHODS ...

REM sleep behavior disorder (RBD)

Background. REM sleep behavior disorder (RBD) is parasomnia characterized by dream enactment and enabled by disruption of physiologicalmuscle atonia during REM sleep. Over the past few years, diagnostic criteria and the methods used to confirm diagnosis have been updated. Objective. In this review article, the current knowledge regarding RBD diagnosis and treatment is presented. Methods. A sele...

Sleepiness in Idiopathic REM Sleep Behavior Disorder and Parkinson Disease.

OBJECTIVE To determine whether patients with idiopathic and symptomatic RBD were sleepier than controls, and if sleepiness in idiopathic RBD predicted earlier conversion to Parkinson disease. METHODS The Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS) and its determinants were compared at the time of a video-polysomnography for an RBD diagnosis in patients with idiopathic RBD, in patients with Parkinson disea...

Increased Corticomuscular Coherence in Idiopathic REM Sleep Behavior Disorder

The authors hypothesized that if locomotor drive increases along with rapid eye movement (REM) sleep without atonia in idiopathic REM sleep behavior disorder (RBD), then RBD patients would have greater corticomuscular coherence (CMC) values during REM sleep than at other sleep stages and than in healthy control subjects during REM sleep. To explore this hypothesis, we analyzed beta frequency ra...
